DUBLIN, Ireland: Officials in Ireland have reported that 15,589 Ukrainian students were enrolled in schools last month.
Throughout Europe, Ireland continues to report having among the highest rates of Ukrainian refugee students in its schools since the Russian invasion in February 2022, according to EU statistics.
A continuing increase in Ukrainian students in Ireland's schools now includes 10,105 students through grade 8 and 5,484 in high school.
The May figures show an increase from 7,420 students through grade 8 and 4,389 pupils in high school last September.
Of note, Ireland also reports that some 103 Ukrainian high school teachers have registered with the nation's Teaching Council.
Ireland's Department of Education is paying for 999 English language teachers, 254 special needs assistants and 201 special education teachers to support the integration of Ukrainian pupils into schools, said officials.
Additional statistics indicate that some 5,000 Ukrainian pupils nationwide are using state school buses to be transported to schools.
A further breakdown shows that 83 percent of Ukrainian children of school-age are in school. Among five to to 12-year-olds, 92 percent are attending Irish schools, with the number dropping to 74 percent among 17 to 18-year-olds.
